Gayther is one service providing three unique websites, known as the Gayther Trinary. Three dedicated sites tailored towards and that focus on different aspects, subjects and themes, referred to as Core, Care and Share. The Trinary was created to help visitors navigate and access the extensive range of Gayther tools, guides, and services quickly and easily.

Gayther Core (gayther.com) is the leading website within the Trinary, and its theme and focus are the areas of information and research. The website provides community-related information from the extensive range of LGBTQIA+ travel guides to the worldwide equality status, based on an index which highlights how every country treats the community through the rights and any protection it has in place. The interactive and user-friendly platform offers users various tools and ways to build connections, whether through community-inspired articles or by taking time out to have some fun with the many games and activities available on Gayther.

Gayther Care (care.gayther.com) provides specialist content with its theme, which focuses on support and care. Young, old, vulnerable or healthy, sometimes we all need help and advice. Gayther Care is a service tailored to community members during the various stages of their lives, and at its core, it is about health and well-being. Care offers dedicated services and tools for those most vulnerable, including specialist content for the elder LGBTQIA+ community and country guides providing all of the vital information needed by refugees and migrants. Gayther Care takes pride in all groups and people that make up the community and offers easy tools and methods to help connect people to the right services for them fast.

Gayther Share or Affinity (gayther.lgbt) is a private social platform for the LGBTQIA+ community, focusing on sharing and connecting with the global community. Gayther Affinity is an online space that allows the community to be themselves, helping members connect with people with similar interests or positions and from all ages and backgrounds. Members can participate in group discussions, ask questions, or search for inclusive businesses, services, and events. Safeguarding is important; Gayther protects its users by offering the service through a closed network where user registration is required and operates a zero-tolerance policy concerning online abuse. With moderation, reporting and user tools, community members can be confident to be themselves in a safe online space.

Gayther has expanded into three unique websites for usability; however, it prides itself in still being one global service, The introduction of the Trinary has meant that each website can now deliver tailored content and focus on different aspects and community themes. The range of services and support available has meant that Gayther has become a representative service for the global community designed to help with the daily challenges many people face from across all sections of the LGBTQIA+ community.

“The journey of acceptance for many within the LGBTQIA+ community can be difficult. From self-acceptance to coming out to friends and family, self-discovery and living as your true self is not always easy. We developed Gayther as a positive platform that dispels misconceptions and outdated stereotypes. We created a range of guides, tools, and articles to showcase and reflect the modern community to help empower people at all stages throughout their lives,” says Peter Williams, founder of Gayther.

“Gayther is a service that informs and highlights the unique identities, special groups and sexualities that make up this exceptional global community. Ultimately, the aim is to show community members and visitors alike that regardless of a person’s sexuality or gender identity, we all have more in common than what sets us apart. We all have similar hopes, fears, aspirations and desires, and who we choose to love or how we wish to identify should not be something that segregates us or should be used to polarise large groups within our societies.”

Gayther is an online service home to one of the world’s largest collections of current and relevant LGBTQIA+ information. Accessing, navigating and sharing content on a large scale can be challenging, especially on a growing LGBTQIA+ platform. To help with accessibility, Gayther developed the Trinary. The Trinary was created to group services, tools, guides and directories by a specific theme or focus, and this was achieved by introducing three dedicated websites.

The first website in the Trinary is Gayther Core (gayther.com), the website that is home to a wide range of detailed LGBTQIA+ travel guides, community information, key resource guides, detailed weather trends and the latest community news. Gayther Care (care.gayther.com) supports key and vulnerable groups within the community, whether through the various support groups and NPOs directory or the wide range of elder LGBQIA+ community resources. The third and final website is Gayther Share or Affinity (gayther.lgbt). Gayther Affinity is a closed social media networking service designed to help community members and their friends connect and communicate within a safe online environment.

Gayther has expanded into three unique websites; however, it prides itself in still being one global service, The introduction of the Trinary has meant that each website will now be able to deliver tailored content and focus on different aspects and community themes. In addition to the Trinary, Gayther introduced an interactive sitemap service and shareable QR codes on every page. All of the tools and ways Gayther aims to help visitors, customers, community members, and friends find what they are looking for quickly and easily.

“The LGBTQIA+ community will often face very different obstacles and challenges than those identifying as heterosexual. Getting the right information to assess or understand the stance, status or protection within a given country or business can be difficult. Gayther has developed many guides, tools and services to help and support the community; however, the larger Gayther becomes, the harder it can be to find what you want and need. That is why we developed the Gayther Trinary.” says Peter Williams, founder of Gayther.

“The Gayther Trinary is three unique websites, core, care, and share, each based on a specific theme or target audience. Individual sites contain all of the guides, tools and services associated with that particular theme or targeted group, making it easier to find what you are looking for and effortless to explore content specific to your current or future needs.”

Gayther is an online service home to one of the world’s largest collections of current and relevant LGBTQIA+ information. Introduced as part of Gayther Trinary is Share, also known as Gayther Affinity, and contains the LGBTQIA+ social networking service. Affinity is an online place for members of the community and their friends to connect and communicate, a safe space to share their thoughts and feelings without the fear of being bullied or online abuse. The service is designed for people over 18 and is closed, which means that visitors to the site must first register and log into the service to see profiles, communicate with users or see what they have shared.

Once registered, the Gayther Affinity service enforces strict policies and features user tools like block, report, and group moderation, designed to quickly stop and remove all those individuals abusing the policies and guidelines. At the same time, Affinity allows users to interact with all the businesses and services listed on any of the three available directories, whether messaging, rating the products and services they offer or providing feedback. The Interactive directories highlight and showcase inclusive organisations and those that actively welcome the community and go beyond any legal obligations within that country.

The first is the Big Directory, the largest of all directories, a service showcasing a range of businesses, from local bakeries to large international law firms. The Care Providers and Services directory is tailored towards the elder LGBTQIA+ community and is a service which connects older customers with any support and assistance they might need, whether it is looking for an inclusive care home or a financial advisor to help with their retirement planning. The final directory is Gayther Event, an open event listing service for businesses and organisers to inform the local community and the world of all upcoming social gatherings they are hosting, ranging from a special night within a local bar to a large pride event or festival.

Users and organisations within the Gayther Affinity social networking tool and directories can connect through the online community and share their experiences with other users. Every directory listing has built-in features, such as the LGBTQIA+ question set, more Gayther and features designed to help with advanced search and filtering. The LGBTQIA+ question set enables businesses to share their overall approach with all their customers, offering free listings the ability to confirm their position against a general inclusivity statement and those with enhanced listings the option to delve into various community subjects and themes.

More Gayther is featured on all listings and helps customers explore information specific to the country, state, province or region where the business is located. Linking area-specific resources on the Gayther platform to each listing, tailored links to resources such as travel guides, weather information, local emergency telephone numbers, and more tools designed to help the overall customer experience. In addition to the directories, the platform goes further, allowing organisations to list any vacancies on the Job Board or offers, such as limited-time discounts and exclusive money-off coupons through the dedicated coupon service.

“Online bullying is a serious issue where countless LGBTQIA+ individuals are targeted and subject to daily abuse and threats. Though popular social media platforms have put in place content controls, given the general nature of these types of services, often the abuse continues,” says Peter Williams, founder of Gayther.

“We created Gayther Affinity as a dedicated online space for LGBTQIA+ community members and their friends. A closed network that acts as a safe space for community members to connect, share and have the freedom to be themselves without fear.”

Gayther is an online service home to one of the world’s largest collections of current and relevant LGBTQIA+ information. The Gather platform features a dedicated media section for community-related news and articles. The news service utilises third-party news service showcasing information and stories specific to the LGBTQIA+ community and the experiences of community members worldwide, with reports from internationally recognised organisations and media outlets, stories that are targeted and help community members keep informed of what is happening around them at all times.

Reputable news outlets and reports produced by professional journalists or those with a media background will present all of the facts in a structured and balanced way. The news is often based on third-hand accounts, information retold from those directly involved and shown from different perspectives. Learning about first-hand accounts from those affected or who had witnessed an event and retold it in their own words can give greater insight, appreciation and a deeper understanding of the situation or what had occurred.

Gayther developed the article service to enable community members and their friends to share opinions and experiences first-hand. Topics and themes that are current and relevant to the community give a real insight into the lives of those telling the stories. The articles are written by all types of people, from those with a media background to those with no writing experience. Anyone can submit an article to Gayther; however, all are subject to the site’s guidelines and policies. Those wishing to share their story do not need prior writing experience or even English as a first language, as the focus is on the opinion, experience or report they wish to share. Gayther’s editorial team is on hand to support those wishing to submit an article, with help shaping and structuring, ready to share it with the world.

“In a world full of so much uncertainty, specific regions and countries targeting and persecuting members of the LGBTQIA+ community, it is even more important today to give members of the global community a voice,” says Peter Williams, founder of Gayther.

“Stories, reports and opinion articles can all provide a greater insight into sections of the LGBTQIA+ community and can help us all understand what it is like for people on the frontlines who face hostility and persecution daily.”

Gayther is an online service home to one of the world’s largest collections of current and relevant LGBTQIA+ information. The LGBTQIA+ community is one of the most diverse and widely dispersed groups globally, a community made up of not one group by many smaller communities and identities, each with unique challenges and obstacles. Understanding and learning about all the smaller communities can be difficult, often with conflicting information or descriptions provided in isolation without the necessary context. To provide a central resource that represents people from around the world and all LGBTQIA+ communities, Gayther was developed. A global resource created to be a positive platform, a space where visitors can access interactive tools, guides and articles designed to inform and help better understand the community.

To take a closer and more in-depth look into the various groups that make up the community, Gayther developed the pride in series, which features twenty-one dedicated guides and definitions of known and lesser-known sexualities, gender identities and special groups. Also, within Gayther’s community section, visitors can access the area dedicated to all the pioneers and advocates who have significantly contributed to the global LGBTQIA+ movement. The pioneers, all those individuals that have come before us, and for many, have helped to secure the rights and freedom they enjoy today or advocates, those who, right now, are working to improve the laws and treatment imposed on community members across the globe.

Gayther releases, each year, a pioneers collection highlighting key individuals who have contributed to the movement throughout history. The annually produced collection provides straightforward descriptions of the pioneer’s life and uses a unique set of community-inspired dollar notes within the overall structure to symbolise how much the community likely contributes to the world economy. The extensive range of tools, guides and services makes Gayther a valuable LGBTQIA+ resource that reflects today’s global and diverse community, one that dispels misinformation and shows, as a society, how we have more in common than what sets us apart.

“The global LGBTQIA+ community is one of the most diverse and inclusive communities on the planet, made up of people from all ethnicities, faiths, socio-economic backgrounds and age groups,” says Peter Williams, founder of Gayther.

“All the community resources have been designed to showcase and highlight all the people who make up this exceptional community. Guides and tools, such as the pride in series, help to inform and showcase the unique sexualities, gender identities and special groups.”

Gayther is an online service home to one of the world’s largest collections of current and relevant LGBTQIA+ information. As part of the Gayther Trinary, users and businesses can access or list within any of the five dedicated directories. The directories are located on all three Gayther websites, each focusing on a particular group or need.

The first website, Share or Gayther Affinity, has three listing services. The Big Directory is the largest and has a more general theme, and is designed to help customers discover inclusive businesses near them or those from around the world. Organisations can showcase their products or services through free or paid listings and, at the same time, provide specific and tailored information to the community. The Care Providers and Services directory is tailored towards the elder LGBTQIA+ community and is a service which connects older customers with any support and assistance they might need, whether it is looking for an inclusive care home or a financial advisor to help with their retirement planning.

The Gayther Event directory is an open event listing service for businesses and organisers to inform the local community and the world of all upcoming social gatherings they are hosting, ranging from a special night within a local bar to a large pride event or festival.

On the second site, Gayther Care, visitors will find the support group and non-profit organisation directory dedicated to showcasing charities, organisations and groups covering the different support areas. Whether it is specialist help for drug addiction or dedicated hotlines with trained people concerning suicide prevention, the directory is a global resource designed to help people connect quickly with the support they need fast. Also available within Care is the Migrants directory, a listing service where businesses and professionals can highlight all the support available to refugees and migrants worldwide. The Migrant’s directory is designed to support all refugees and migrants but also highlights any specialist advice explicitly provided to the LGBTQIA+ community. The Gayther Support Group and Migrants directories also have unique add-on features, such as various practical terms translated into the local languages relevant to the directory’s theme, emergency service telephone numbers in the local area for those needing immediate help and tailored links to other resources available in the local area or country through the More Gayther feature.

The third website, Gayther Core, is home to two closed listing services, the weather and transport directories. Over 1,200 detailed weather trends worldwide can be found within the dedicated weather directory, making it quick and easy for visitors to discover detailed weather information, including low, high and average temperatures. Easy-to-understand heat maps highlight average temperatures throughout the year and all of the months linked to a particular season, helping visitors quickly establish where to go at any time and when it is the best chance for the most sunshine and the least rain.

The final directory is the transport directory, an interactive tool which features thousands of airports, ports, metro and train stations and other modes of transport. The transport directory features standard and enhanced listings, with those enhanced providing area maps of airports and interactive line guides. The transport directory is designed to help users plan and navigate around major cities and towns around the world.

“Though there are many ways for businesses, services and events to list on the various third-party LGBTQIA+ websites, we believe all Gayther directories are unique. With exclusive add-on features, advanced filters and an interactive user experience, all the ways we can help you easily connect with customers and showcase your products and services,” says Peter Williams, founder of Gayther.

Gayther is an online service home to one of the world’s largest collections of current and relevant LGBTQIA+ information. Gayther Care has an extensive range of LGBTQIA+ elder resources, tools and guides designed to support older people from across the community. A community often underrepresented, with limited solutions and options catering to individuals identifying as LGBTQIA+. Many older people worldwide often face discrimination when accessing healthcare or fail to get the support they need due to a lack of inclusive products and services. Whether generational barriers or difficulty in publicising their sexuality or gender identity, many either suppress who they are to get the help they need or avoid asking for assistance altogether.

Gayther developed its range of elder resources to be positive, empowering, and a way of helping more senior community members find and connect with inclusive businesses. All those organisations that design or adapt their products and services are aware of the barriers and obstacles many of their customers face, likely making any support they offer more accessible. The resources on the Gayther Care website include guides, an interactive care directory and helpful information about the various products and services available. From retirement product explanations to the types of care options, all are designed to help older community members better assess the range of options when they need additional support in the later years of their lives.

The guides and support on the platform are not only limited to LGBTQIA+ individuals but are also available to those organisations developing tailored community products and services or those wishing to adapt existing solutions to become more inclusive. Whether it is the generations tool which provides useful definitions for each known generation and the barriers they likely face, the range of articles designed to help businesses develop more inclusive solutions or the LGBTQIA+ Elder Community guide, which provides statistics and helpful information for all age groups from young adults to experienced older individuals.

Those individuals needing immediate assistance can find the support they need through the dedicated care directory. The Gayther Care Providers and Service (CPS) directory helps organisations showcase their services and the types of products available. Whether tailored, dedicated or through procedures and controls designed to ensure inclusivity for older community members, users of the directory can assess and establish the products and services suitable to them anywhere in the world.

The directory also offers advanced filtering and requests specific information from all those who list to ensure that those needing help can quickly find what best works for them. In addition to the Care directory, many categories within the Support and NPO directory focus on elder LGBTQIA+ charities, support groups and advisory groups that can help those needing financial support, professional advice, or those feeling lonely and needing someone to talk to.

“The LGBTQIA+ community is diverse and made up of people from all ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds and faiths. At the same time, it is also made up of people from all age groups and generations. Whether from the baby boomer generation or millennials, our environment and life experiences will likely impact how we view the world around us, ask for help, or respond to certain situations,” says Peter Williams, founder of Gayther.

“Though research has been carried out concerning LGBTQIA+ care needs, the area is still one that still needs further attention and investigation. Conventional care solutions often do not work for community members, especially where inclusive policies are not implemented and where many likely still face some form of discrimination when accessing healthcare. Tailored long-care solutions exist in a few countries; however, the number of businesses offering these solutions is small, and spaces are often limited. The simple reality is a lot more still needs to be done.”

Gayther is an online service home to one of the world’s largest collections of current and relevant LGBTQIA+ information. To help people when the worse happens, Gayther developed a range of emergency services and tools. Disaster can strike anytime; when it does, getting the correct information and right support as quickly as possible is vital. The situation can be made worse when travelling or communicating with first responders in a different language than your own.

The Gayther Emergency Services Telephone Number tool provides a variety of ways to quickly establish the numbers used within all countries around the world to contact emergency services, such as the police, fire service and medical assistance. The dedicated tool offers many add-in features, including dialling the number at the click of a button or accessing practical terms in any country’s local language. In addition, emergency services numbers can be found within all LGBTQIA+ travel guides and listings in the support group and NPO directory.

For those needing immediate medical assistance, Gayther’s Medical Diagnois Interpreter, also known as the MDI, is an online tool and a series of downloadable guides which can help in a medical emergency. A valuable resource designed to help communicate in over 100 languages, sharing with first responders how you are feeling, any pains and symptoms you may have, as well as critical information needed by a medical professional to be able to diagnose and ultimately treat the underlying problem.

No one should ever feel hopeless or alone. The global Support Group and Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) directory can help those in despair, lonely and needing support. Links can be found on every single page across all three sites, and the directory is a free service to raise awareness of community-related support and help organisations and groups by showcasing the levels of support they offer. Whether specialist help for drug addiction or dedicated hotlines with trained people concerning suicide prevention, the support directory is a global service designed to help people connect quickly with the support and services they need fast.

With wars, conflicts and disasters occurring at any time, anywhere in the world, more people are becoming displaced and forced to leave their homes and countries for their safety and protection. Gayther has dedicated services for those seeking refuge, from the 233 detailed refugee and migrant guides to the specialist refugee communication tool. The Refugee Communication Tool, or RCT as it is also known, helps refugees and migrants communicate their needs and current situation in over 100 languages. The RCT is an online tool designed to be used by the user as click and point, with each section conveying important information and terms associated with crossing borders and dealing with government officials.

“Knowing the right numbers to call in an emergency can be critical. Any delays in getting help can mean the literal difference between life and death for many people,” says Peter Williams, founder of Gayther.

“All of Gayther’s emergency tools were designed to help people quickly contact and communicate important information to first responders or officials to get the help they need fast.”

Gayther is an online service home to one of the world’s largest collections of current and relevant LGBTQIA+ information. Hundreds of events occur around the world at any given time. Whether a concert, festival or a themed night at a local bar, it can be challenging for organisers to make people aware of an upcoming event. Gayther developed a range of event services for organisers and those attending events, designed to help people establish what is going on around them at any time or anywhere they plan to visit. Finding the perfect event can turn a trip or the day from good to great, and with Gayther’s range of tools and services, you will never miss one again.

The significant events tool on the Gayther platform is an online service which features special worldwide events and observation dates, both those general and specific to the LGBTQIA+ community. Dates such as Christmas, pride month, asexual awareness week and the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots ensure that important days or periods are never missed or forgotten. The dates featured within the significant events tool are also showcased within Gayther’s fortnightly newsletter, highlighting those dates occurring closest to when the newsletter was sent.

Gayther Events is a listing service designed for businesses and organisers to showcase their events. Organisers can choose from free to paid plans and create links to their business or service profiles on any of the four other Gayther directories. The directory features a range of events, from those that are inclusive and welcomes all to those explicitly tailored to the community. Any organisation listed on Gayther Affinity’s Big Directory or Care Providers and Services directories can create direct links from their profile to any upcoming events they are hosting, even those that reoccur for a specific period each week, month or year.

“Organising an event takes time and a lot of effort. Reaching the right audiences can be difficult, especially for those who actively want and encourage community members to attend. Gayther’s range of services are designed to help showcase and highlight all events, anywhere in the world, that are both inclusive and welcoming to all,” says Peter Williams, founder of Gayther.

Gayther is an online service home to one of the world’s largest collections of current and relevant LGBTQIA+ information. To help people learn more about the community, Gayther developed a range of fun and entertaining games and activities. Learning about the community is fun, especially given that the LGBTQIA+ community has a long history that has been around for thousands of years and contains many well-known and notable people throughout all times and periods. The more engaged we are and the more fun we have, the more likely we are to learn and retain whatever facts and information has been presented. The LGBTQIA+ community does not disappoint, with many entertaining facts and statistics which will have people from inside and outside the community feeling a sense of pride and saying aloud, ‘I did not know that’.

The more we learn about history, the less likely we will repeat the same mistakes. To help people learn, Gayther created material to engage everyone, from those who love fun facts to others who want to learn as they colour in an image. The games and activities are free, interactive and contain engaging content, with many available to download. Printable versions of activities that you can use when you are travelling, whether it is the personality tests that are a fun way to establish any possible connections to a particular sexuality or gender identity to the colour and learn drawings where you can colour in the image and, at the same time, learn more about a specific subject or theme.

The Gayther Trivia downloads are designed to help those wanting to organise a group activity with friends and family. For those who want a personal challenge, there is a selection of crosswords, word searches and quizzes. Whether you identify as LGBTQIA+ or not, are looking to have some fun and want to learn more about the community, then the Gayther fun and games resources can help.

“Engaging audiences and learning does not need to be hard or even a chore. We developed the fun and games resources as a way of helping to inform people more about the community, but at the same time making it both a fun and enjoyable experience,” says Peter Williams, founder of Gayther.

“Creating engaging content was easy, especially given that the global LGBTQIA+ community is fascinating, made up of many interesting and entertaining individuals and packed with fun facts and engaging highlights. A diverse community spanning the globe with a long history that stretches thousands of years and has been an integral part of modern society.”

Gayther is an online service home to one of the world’s largest collections of current and relevant LGBTQIA+ information. Gayther compiles six unique indices each year to highlight and inform the community of the status of laws and the rights of LGBTQIA+ individuals living within any given country. The indices assess the various laws, regulations, treatments in place or any developments that occurred throughout the year to summarise the current status of how a particular country treats its local LGBTQIA+ community members.

The Gayther Equality Index is the leading and most widely used index on the platform, as it assesses and scores each country based on areas such as whether it still has laws in place that criminalise same-sex relationships, the status of forming same-sex marriages or civil unions, and the existence of any anti-discrimination laws. Based on the assessment, each country is given a score, which is converted into a position on the scale from very low to very high. The scale uses easy-to-understand terms and definitions, where a country that scores high or very high typically indicates that it has progressive laws. Those countries that score low or very low will likely be hostile towards the community, criminalising and even imposing a death sentence for those prosecuted.

The size and scale of the global community are unknown as only a few countries include LGBGTQIA+ questions within their population census, which typically occur every ten years. For those countries that have included community-related questions, it does not necessarily mean all participating would freely disclose their sexuality or gender identity, as they might be coming to terms with their identity, fear being outed or of any potential repercussions. Most predictions and estimates concerning the size of the LGBTQIA+ community are based on sample size research or best estimates. To help visualise and understand the potential size of the community, Gayther devised the population and dollar indices. The two indices were created using trusted sources and conservative calculations to predict and estimate the community’s size by country, region, and how much it likely contributes to the world’s economy.

The Gayther Banning Gay Conversion Therapy Index was created to track all countries worldwide that have either state endorsed or banned the practice. The Gayther Gender Recognition Index helps to highlight the laws, including any restrictions countries may impose on those transitioning and who require legal recognition of their transitioned gender. The final index, the Gayther’ Same-Sex Marriage and Civil Unions Index, tracks all those countries that recognise same-sex unions or partnerships and any conditions, terms or restrictions it may have in place on those wishing to form a legal partnership.

All of the indices play an integral role across the Gayther platform, often used to communicate a country’s current position and stance and the overall treatment of the community within regions and societies across the globe. The indices can help to quickly inform and provide the community with the necessary information to assess any possible risks or obstacles when visiting a particular country or region. Since Gayther introduced the indices in 2019, the world has seen many positive developments in the rules, regulations and treatments concerning the LGBTQIA+ community. Though positive, the movement for equality continues today and is becoming even more crucial in countries where the community is being singled out and targeted.

“Belonging to a Community is more than just a term or what we share and have in common. It is about how we come together for a common cause, supporting and lifting each other, whether at home or in how we show solidarity to those being persecuted or facing injustice right now around the world. The combined LGBTQIA+ community and potential influence are often underestimated, especially given the significant contribution it likely makes to society and the global economy as a whole,” says Peter Williams, founder of Gayther.

“For many community members, they and those that came before them fought hard to enjoy the freedoms we enjoy today, such as the right to marry, legal protection in many areas and freedom from discrimination. Today, with an increase in anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric and agendas and other countries remaining committed to criminalising and prosecuting same-sex relationships, it is even more important that the community remains united and people stay informed regarding what is happening around them.”

Ten countries still issue death sentences as a maximum penalty to those prosecuted for same-sex relationships, and almost half (111 countries) have no anti-discrimination laws in place
  • Population and Economy: In 2023, the Gayther Population Index estimates that there are over 212 million LGBTQIA+ people will be living in countries across the globe, and the Gayther LGBTQIA+ Dollar Index estimates that the community will contribute over 1.4 trillion US dollars to the world’s economies

Gayther is an online service home to one of the world’s largest collections of current and relevant LGBTQIA+ information. To celebrate the people that make up the LGBTQIA+ community, each year, Gayther highlights five worldwide pioneers who have contributed to the movement for equality and acceptance. Many of those featured are individuals who, through their direct actions and bravery in accepting who they are, even when the odds were stacked against them, helped change the laws, minds and perceptions concerning the community.

Since 2019, Gayther has released the pioneers’ collection as LGBTQIA+ dollars, a unique set of dollar bills ranging from 5 to 100. The dollar bills within the pioneers’ collection are symbolic and used to draw attention to the amount the community likely contributes to the world’s economy every year, which according to the Gayther LGBTQIA+ Dollar Index, is estimated to be over 1.4 trillion US dollars.

Where pioneers are those individuals that had come before us and helped lay the foundations of modern society, Advocates are those still using their voices, influence and platforms to highlight specific causes and improve the lives of community members across the globe. For individuals ranging from celebrities to ordained ministers, advocacy plays a vital role in the continuing movement for equality taking place right now. Advocacy can come in many forms, such as an individual publicly identifying as LGBTQIA+, someone pushing boundaries and perceptions or those who take more direct action in protesting and calling on governments to take action.

“Remembering and learning more about pioneers and advocates is important for the community. Understanding the sacrifices and obstacles so many people have made and faced to secure the rights we enjoy today helps continue the movement for equality and also helps acknowledge how far we have come in the past 50 years,” says Peter Williams, founder of Gayther.

“In a world full of uncertainty and rising anti-LGBTQIA+ sentiments and hostility in specific regions and countries, unfortunately, people facing persecution will inevitability have no choice but to stand up for their rights and freedoms and become the pioneers for future generations.”

Gayther is an online service home to one of the world’s largest collections of current and relevant LGBTQIA+ information. To help and support refugees and migrants worldwide, Gayther has developed a range of guides, tools and services. For those fleeing persecution or hardship obtaining consistent and relevant information can be challenging; determining where to go can be the first obstacle, as the list of determined safe countries is not universal, can be subject to change and will be different for each country due to the relationship and position between individual states and governments. Refugees fleeing war or persecution and migrants escaping poverty and a lack of opportunities often travel thousands of miles to possible safe countries in the hope that they can start a new life for both themselves and their families.

The protected grounds for asylum, created and developed since the Geneva Convention for refugees in 1951, typically provide the framework and criteria for countries that signed up to the convention or later protocol to assess those individuals claiming asylum. For LGBTQIA+ refugees, there are no specific protected grounds. Instead, community members are required to claim under the membership of a social group, which is both broad and open to interpretation by each country. Community members fleeing for their lives, escaping persecution or certain death, will be limited to the safe countries available to them and will be unsure of the assessment approach given that there is no universal definition, criteria or standard.

Gayther expanded its range of data to offer interactive guides and detailed content for both refugees and migrants, as well as information specific to the LGBTQIA+ community. During a crisis, it is vital to access the correct information and the refugees and migrant guides have been designed to help. The classification and universal safe country list use a range of published indices, including the Gayther Equality Index and any known and current conflicts and dangerous situations worldwide, to develop a potential list of safe countries based on the typical criteria many governments use. The assessment also considers a country’s laws and the protection it offers community members to create a safe country list specific to the LGBTQIA+ community.

All 233 country guides contain detailed information, including five potential safe countries by distance from their current location, links to the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) assistance service and all other essential information for those seeking asylum. The comprehensive guides also include relevant LGBTQIA+ information, from straightforward community classifications based on a scale to those countries with a history of accepting applications based on a person’s sexuality or gender identity.

The Refugee Communication Tool, or RCT, is an online interactive communication service where refugees, migrants and those providing help and assistance can communicate in over 100 languages. Using English and any of the languages associated with the available list of countries, individuals can share essential information using terms and classifications relating to support and those commonly used to outline any problems or obstacles a refugee or migrant might have or will likely face. Gayther Care contains a range of guides explaining often complex subjects relating to Refugees and Migrants and the process of claiming asylum. For individuals with immediate needs and those seeking advice, Gayther’s Migrant directory showcases all organisations by country and region that offer products and solutions tailored towards refugees and migrants. The Support and NPOs directory contains categories associated with charities and support groups which provide advice and support services to those seeking refuge.

“Today, it is common for governments and the media to highlight the problems associated with the large number of refugees and migrants worldwide. A situation that many countries are sympathetic towards; however, at the same time, introduce processes or policies to defer people from entering the country and seeking asylum,” says Peter Williams, founder of Gayther.

“Many often overlook the human aspect. People who seek refuge, whether refugees or migrants are doing so for no fault of their own, whether fleeing conflict or due to the lack of resources or opportunities. Most people who leave their country due to extreme circumstances do not do so willingly. Instead, it is often out of necessity and in the hope for a better future for themselves and their families.”

KEY FACTS:
  • The refugees and migrant country guides provide detailed information for 233 countries worldwide
  • In 2023, it is estimated that there are 135 or 58% of countries would likely be classified as Green or Safe, 84 or 36% would be classified as Amber and 14 or 6% as Red
  • In 2023, it is estimated that of countries around the world concerning LGBTQIA+ safe countries, 94 countries or 40% would be classified as Green or Safe, with 31 with a history of accepting community members. 94 (40%) are classified as Amber, and 92 are unlikely to accept the community. 10 or 4% classified as Black where they issue a death sentence as a maximum penalty
  • According to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, at the end of 2022, there are 108.4 million forcibly displaced people worldwide. Using the Gayther population estimates, that would mean there could be as many as 2.9 million that would likely identify as LGBTQIA+
  • The UNHCR refugee 2022 statistics indicate that over half of the refugees come from just three countries (Syria, Ukraine and Afghanistan), and 38% are hosted within five countries (Turkiye, Iran, Colombia, Germany and Pakistan)

Gayther is an online service home to one of the world’s largest collections of current and relevant LGBTQIA+ information. To support community members, both young and old, Gayther has developed a range of services, guides and tools for all age groups. Whether an adolescent or someone at retirement age, many individuals who form these vulnerable groups likely face difficult obstacles and challenges in their daily lives due to their sexuality or how they choose to identify. The challenges differ depending on a person’s age; adolescents likely struggle more with acceptance and identity, and older people due to a lack of support and suitable services.

In the United Kingdom, the charity Stonewall carried out a study in 2018 which established that almost one in four LGBT people (23%) had witnessed discriminatory or negative remarks against LGBT people by healthcare staff1. A factor that likely increases the risk of community members being reluctant to reach out for help, feeling the need to suppress and hide who they are to get the support desperately needed and why many feel alone and isolated. The same study highlighted that, of the 5,000 LGBTQIA+ individuals interviewed, shockingly, two-thirds (64%) had experienced anti-LGBT violence or abuse1.

In the United States, the Trevor Project captured the experiences of nearly 34,000 LGBTQ youths aged 13-24 and of those who had participated, nearly half (45%) had seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year2, with higher rates being reported for adolescents and young adults that identified as transgender or by people of colour. The struggle to accept who they are, victims of bullying, or the fear of rejection by friends and family often are the leading causes of despair and hopelessness in LGBTQIA+ youths.

Many exceptional charities, support groups and organisations exist around the world, groups set up and equipped to help and advise those facing issues, obstacles and challenges. The problem is not always the availability of resources; instead that they are not always known or readily accessible to those individuals who need urgent help. Gayther created the global Support Group and Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) directory as a free service to raise awareness of community-related support and help the organisations and groups by showcasing the levels of support they offer.

Whether specialist help for drug addiction or dedicated hotlines with trained people concerning suicide prevention, the support directory is a global service designed to help people connect quickly with the support and services they need fast. Every directory listing has unique features specific to Gayther, such as relevant translated terms in the local languages, for those needing help while overseas and local emergency contact telephone numbers for those needing more urgent assistance.

“It is important that everyone knows they are never alone and a wide range of support and help is always available. Whether through positive community-related content or in helping to connect to groups and organisations equipped to help, no matter how big or how small, all measures matter. All are playing an important role in the support and caring of the entire community, young, old and in between,” says Peter Williams, founder of Gayther.

“Life can often be hard with daily challenges for LGBTQIA+ individuals. It is important that they know they are not alone and that there are people and organisations out there who care and want to help.”

Gayther is an online service home to one of the world’s largest collections of current and relevant LGBTQIA+ information. A significant feature of the Gayther service is the range of free online LGBTQIA+ travel guides. With over 630 travel guides covering all countries, major states, and regions worldwide, each providing in-depth and essential travel information that will benefit all travellers, regardless of whether they identify as LGBTQIA+. The guides include all the key travel details, such as local currencies, major airports, common terms and phrases translated into the local languages, monthly weather trends, and heat maps to help quickly establish the best time to visit.

For LGBTQIA+ travellers, the guides incorporate the annually compiled Gayther Equality Index, a tool which assesses each country based on how it treats its local LGBTQIA+ community through its laws and regulations. Visitors can quickly asses the likely treatment of community members and any potential risks or obstacles they might face should they decide to visit. The straightforward equality index scale definitions, which range from very low to very high, provide an easy-to-understand assessment to help keep travellers informed. Gayther’s travel guides are a helpful travel companion to everyone, offering a free and complete travel guide on a page with all the possible information you could want or need when planning a trip.

“Travelling as an LGBTQIA+ individual can be challenging. From the laws and attitudes to how they will be treated and welcomed, planning a trip takes more research and energy than those who identify as heterosexual,” says Peter Williams, founder of Gayther.

“We developed the LGBTQIA+ travel guides to represent all countries, major states, regions and provinces, even those areas with a history of hostility towards the community. We feel it is vital that people are presented with all the facts quickly and easily to assess their chosen destination and whether it is right for them, including any precautions they might need to take during their trip.”
