The Chatham Islands are a group of islands within New Zealand. New Zealand is part of the Australasia region in the continent of Oceania. The name New Zealand is believed to have derived from the Dutch province known as Zeeland, which means sea land and is also known as the Land of the Long White Cloud. It is in the Southern hemisphere and is 268.7 thousand square kilometres in size. The primary languages spoken are English and Māori; the capital city is Wellington and the main currency used is the New Zealand Dollar. The regional capital of the Chatham Islands is Waitangi, which has a total area of 996 square kilometres and is the only area within the region
