Mauritania is part of the Western Africa region in the continent of Africa. The name Mauritania is believed to have derived from the Latin term meaning land of the Moors. It is in the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, near the equator and is 1 million square kilometres in size. The primary language spoken is Arabic, the capital city is Nouakchott, and the main currency used is the Ouguiya.
