Whenever we travel, we will usually have a fun and memorable experience, however, if disaster strikes it is essential you know how to contact the emergency services
Every country around the world will typically have three emergency services, Fire, Ambulance and the Police.
- Fire – should a fire or situation that could result in a fire occur, for example, a gas leak, you should contact the fire service. The fire service has not only the right equipment to extinguish or stop fires quickly but also the experience to ensure that you are kept safe from harm
- Ambulance – in actual or expected medical emergencies, it is crucial that you contact the ambulance service. Qualified medical staff will be despatched and are the first responders. It is their job to ensure that the medical condition is stabilised before transferring the patient quickly to the closest hospital or medical facility
- Police – the police service is focused around upholding the laws and keeping order in any given country. The police are often called to help with severe and minor crimes as well as handling the reporting of robberies and physical attacks
It is essential that when travelling overseas that you ensure you have suitable travel insurance as some countries may charge a fee for medical and other emergency services.
If your situation is not life-threatening and you feel you need help or support, contact one of the many fantastic charities or support groups that offer a range of services and help
